The town of Northam is situated on the banks of the Avon and Mortlock Rivers and set among rolling hills, bush and farmlands. As a regional centre, Northam has services, amenities, schools and training organisations, employment and business opportunities found only in a few other inland places in WA. It is small enough to have a strong sense of community and to enjoy the kind of lifestyle traditionally associated with country living. There is an inclusive sporting and cultural life in the Shire and surrounding districts including all major sports, theatre and the arts. There are two race tracks for those who enjoy horse racing and a speedway. Walking, cycling and horse riding are well provided for in the local area. The climate is Mediterranean with hot dry summers and cool wet winters and plenty of sunshine all year round. NORTHAM HAS BEEN DESIGNATED TO BECOME A SUPERTOWN BY THE STATE GOVERNMENT! WATCH THIS SPACE FOR MORE INFORMATION AS THE PROCESS UNFOLDS. The other smaller centres in the Shire of Northam are Bakers Hill, Clackline, Wundowie all of which are growing and and offer scope for residential and business development. For more information about the Shire of Northam please see the link to their website in the links section at the bottom of the page. TOURISM As part of the Experience Perth tourism region Northam is in a triangle with Toodyay and York. There is enormous scope for the development of tourism businesses in this area. For further information about Northam tourism please use the link to the Northam Visitor Centre website in the links section at the bottom of the page. THE NORTHAM CHAMBER OF COMMERCE The Chamber receives funding through a differential rate levied on the commercial properties in the Northam CBD. These funds are used in a number of ways to help with marketing and promotion of all Northam businesses whether they are Chamber members or not, though of course there are advantages to Chamber membership. For more information about Membership please check out the Membership tab. The Northam Chamber of Commerce has events for members and guests. For 2010 there are a series of Business After Hours which are hosted by one of two members and provide a valuable networking opportunity. The major event for 2010 is the inaugural Avon Valley Business Awards which builds on the success of the Northam Business Awards. Each member has an entry on the website with their contact information. Non-members have a listing with their phone numbers. Please see the Businesses tab. We invite you to explore the content. Our aim is to keep it up to date and currrent. We welcome your feedback and ideas. |
